Students who are planning on obtaining an Associate or Bachelor’s degree must complete the Admissions Application Procedure. Your application will be reviewed when we have received all of the following:
Completed applications will be reviewed promptly, with strongest consideration given to portfolio and essay. Although we will respect your portfolio, Heartwood cannot accept responsibility for damage or loss. We will return portfolios shortly after review dates, provided we have received proper return postage and address labels. Accepted students are asked to respond to Heartwood by May. Those who have chosen to become Heartwood students should include a non-refundable enrollment deposit with their responses. This deposit will be applied to the student’s charges for their first semester in attendance. Portfolio GuidelinesA portfolio consists of 10-15 pieces of artwork. A sketchbook, clear photographs, and slides may be included. It is often helpful to include some examples of freehand drawing. Work copied from other artwork will not be considered. Portfolios will be evaluated on the basis of skill and creativity. Photographs or slides of three dimensional objects or of large two dimensional pieces should be submitted in lieu of the actual art. When sending slides, please submit 2"x 2" 35mm copies of the original slides. Do not send glass slides. Slides and photographs should be numbered with number 1 on top and they should be accompanied by a numbered list including title, medium, dimensions and date of completion. Slides should either be banded together or in a protective cover slide jacket/sheet in numerical order. With the image right side up and the emulsion side down, please place a dot in the lower left hand corner. Be sure to put your name on each side and/or photograph. Please use protective materials for mailing and for the return mailing of your portfolio. Please use protective materials for mailing and for the return mailing of your portfolio. Application Reviews
